Craigmillar and Peffermill Court

Improvement works and benefits

Craigmillar Court and Peffermill Court are multi-storey blocks that were built in the 1960s in Craigmillar. Due to their age, these buildings now need significant repairs and investment to bring them up to modern standards. The improvements are part of a project to modernise 44 multi-storey blocks across the city.

We are working on a project to invest in the blocks and make significant improvements so they will be safer, warmer and more comfortable places to live. These improvements will make sure each block meets the Energy Efficient Standard for Social Housing (EEHH2).

We have surveyed each of the blocks and looked at

  • the buildings - walls, roofs, floors, windows and doors to see what improvements can be made there.
  • the mechanical and electrical infrastructure
  • the systems for providing ventilation, heating and hot water to see if we can make them more efficient.

We also met and spoke with residents for their feedback and ideas and are now working on the plans and designs for both blocks. The improvements will include

  • Accessible walkways
  • Full review of all mechanical and electrical infrastucture
  • Improvements to communal facilities (eg stairwells, foyer areas)
  • Improvements to the area outside the buildings to create nice community spaces
  • New internal and external insulation where suitable
  • New ventilation systems to prevent damp and mould
  • New fire protection improvements / systems
  • New windows and doors
  • Refurbished entryways
  • Repairs to building render
  • Roof repair or replacement

Any improvements we do will help to make homes safer, easier to heat, warmer and more comfortable places to live.
