Improvement works and benefits
Due to their age and condition, the multi-storey blocks at Inchmickery Court and Oxcars Court in Muirhouse need significant investment and repairs to bring them up to modern standards. The improvements are part of a across the city.
We are investing in these buildings to make them safer, warmer and more comfortable places to live. The planned improvements for each block will make sure they meet the Energy Efficient Standard for Social Housing (EESSH2) and will include
- a building wide sprinkler system
- better recycling and waste facilities
- full electrical rewire
- new external windows
- new secure front doors
- new balcony doors
- new external wall insulation
- new hot water heating systems
- new water pipes
- new waste drainage pipes
- new kitchens and bathrooms
- new carpets for bedrooms and living rooms, and vinyl / linoleum for bathrooms and kitchens
- removal of all traces of mould and mildew
- significant fire safety improvements.
There will also be vastly improved communal facilities based on the ground floors and outdoor spaces around both buildings.
Once the work is finished residents homes will be safer, dryer and warmer, and it is likely that they will be cheaper to heat.
